It's a yucky, rainy day here in Eastern NC, but the leaves are sure pretty. And we've got the lights on at the Wine & Words stores. Stop by Wine & Words...& Gourmet in Washington and get a cup of Counter Culture coffee and a Back Bay Cafe sandwich, browse the growing selection of books and CD's, and generally take shelter from the storm. If you're in Belhaven, come by Back Bay Cafe, where the Maple Sweet Potato Soup is just the ticket on a day like this. You'll probably meet some ICW transiters who are hunkering down before continuing south. And you'll see how international we've become. Seems like French has been the language at the Cafe for the past week. Mostly French Canadian cruisers, but we had a couple from France, as well. I keep my dictionaries handy.
Holiday Schedule
We will be open, as usual, Wednesday November 26, so you can pick up your last minute Thanksgiving feast supplies. We will be closed Thanksgiving Day, then open our usual weekend hours. We hope we will see you and your guests sometime during the Thanksgiving week.
Wine Tasting in Belhaven
This weekend is Wine Tasting at Wine & Words/The Back Bay Cafe in Belhaven. As you know from the recent newsletter, we've got a stellar lineup of "Wines for Holiday Feasts." And because I really want you to try these wines, I'm going to do the tasting on both Friday and Saturday nights (5:30-8:00). And because I really, really want you to try these wines, the tasting will be free when you have dinner at The Back Bay Cafe. So make your plans now and call us for a reservation - 252-944-2870. Gasoline prices are down, so there's never been a better time to come to Belhaven. You'll be glad you did, and we'll be glad to see you.
New Stuff
I made the long day run out to the middle of the state on Tuesday and brought back a Scion full of new items and replenishments. We've now got Spanish chorizo again. This is the real air-dried stuff from Spain, made of pork loin, garlic and smoked paprika. It's great in the Cornbread and Chorizo Stuffing Chef Yvonne is making as a dinnertime side at Back Bay Cafe. See if you can get her to give you the recipe.
Another item that might go well with your Thanksgiving feast (and that sells out fast) is our Stilton/Cranberry mini cheese wheel, now back in stock.
And I got the Monteleccio wine that we've been waiting for on the Featured Wines list. This "baby Brunello" is very adaptable at your feasting table, and it's 20% off all month. I also saw Jim Stock, the Haw River Wine Man, our window into all things Italian. I brought back a Barbera D'Asti that Yvonne and I tried last night. It's light and refreshing, and we're able to sell it for only $11.50! Another great bargain.
Also replenished our supply of Stolzle Oberglass lead-free German crystal wine glasses. These make great gifts and are also a beautiful addition to your table. Great wine deserves a great glass.
So enough for today. I've got to head for Washington.
Keep your head dry and your whistle wet... and keep on coming in to see us.
Cheers,
James the Wine Guy
