Trick or treat? You know I always prefer a treat. And you also know we've got plenty of treats at our Wine & Words stores, especially on this beautiful Halloween day. In the liquid department we've got Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Wychwood's Hobgoblin Ale (the Hobgoblin says, "What's the matter, Lager Boy? Afraid you might taste something?") and the much less scary J.K. Scrumpy's Hard Cider. Or treat yourself to one of our addictive Berkshire Bark chocolates (we've gotten customer complaints that we shouldn't be allowed to sell something so good). Of course, a lovely bottle of wine is a nice treat to have when you're jumping up to answer the door to the little gremlins.
And for a real treat, I've attached the November menus for our Back Bay Cafe in Belhaven. The new lunch items will start next Wednesday, but the new dinner menu starts tonight. Check it out and give us a call. We always take reservations, and we're always glad to see you.
I've got the November Featured wines selected, but because I played a trick on myself earlier in the week, I haven't gotten the newsletter done. Last Monday I took Chef Yvonne's visiting London nephew out for a lovely afternoon on North Creek in the kayak I built a few years ago. As we were bringing the boat in and I had the bow under my arm, I stepped off the back of the dock and landed in the water, partially dislocating my right shoulder in the process. I'm on the mend now, but way behind in my work. If no one plays any tricks on me this weekend, I should have the Words on Wine newsletter to you in a couple of days. You're very much going to want to read about the "Wines for Holiday Feasts" that we've picked out for you. Some are old favorites, and some are brand new.
In the meantime, Mary will be offering samples of some of the wines tonight and tomorrow, and I will be pouring them at Back Bay Cafe. So come by and we'll tell you about the wines in person...and you can see the lovely sling I've made from an old necktie.
Another treat I'm pleased to share with you is that your support has done the trick. Both Belhaven and Washington store's sales were up slightly for October, compared to last year. That's nothing to be scared of! If you keep it up, we can chase away the economic boogy men and cruise into the holiday season with good times and good taste. We very much appreciate it!
Don't eat too much candy...and come by and see us.
