Chef Yvonne and I spent a quiet Christmas day at North Creek. We phone chatted with family in Germany, France, England, Philadelphia, Raleigh and Tucson. And the grilled salmon went marvelously well with the last bottle of 2002 Martin Family Russian River Pinot Noir.

Saturday evening is the Belhaven Christmas parade, beginning at 5:30. You can park at Wine & Words/The Back Bay Cafe and walk a block to see the parade and hear the special music. Then come on back to warm up and have a lovely dinner. Some folks have already reserved tables, so call us soon and let us know you're coming.
As I came across the Pantego Creek Bridge this morning, the fog was so heavy that it looked like a "bridge to nowhere." Now there are some who say Belhaven is "nowhere." But you know it's the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that's bound to be up there somewhere.

There are big doings in Washington this weekend, as downtown kicks off the holiday season.
Today (Friday) is the opening of the Beaufort County Arts Council's Holiday Arts & Crafts Show at the Washington Civic Center from noon until 8:00. And at 8:00 at the Turnage Theater, there's a Heart of the City Holiday Concert by the Beaufort County Choral Society with the River City Ringers.

Saturday morning is the Washington Christmas Parade at 10:00. We'll be open and you're welcome to park in the city lot behind our store and come through to Main Street (you can't miss our new sign). Merchants will be having a Sidewalk Sale, but we'll be staying inside with hot cider and wine tasting of our special Holiday Wine Specials.
While you're downtown, don't miss the Holiday Arts & Craft Show from 9:00 until 5:00, the Spirit of Washington cruise ship open house from 2 until 4, and the Turnage Home Tour from 2-7.
