When Wall Street Sneezes

Wall Street Mugs

Wall Street's still got double pneumonia, but down here on Main Street we're just suffering from an annoying cold. And I'm not talking about the weather. Though I am pleased that while sales in Washington continue to be down from last year, the Belhaven numbers are actually looking pretty good.

Some of the silver lining in Belhaven is due to our having had a couple of special events this week. On Tuesday we had the "Out to Lunch" ladies from Chocowinity. We served them our usual fine luncheon and then I rambled on about some interesting facts on the differences in how men and women approach wine tasting and wine making. Then on Wednesday evening we had the Oriental Bicycle club on their third annual "Around the Sounds" ride. We served them fresh flounder stuffed with crab, as well as a selection of beers and wines.

The main reason I'm telling you about these events is so you'll know that we're very flexible in doing special events during times when we're not open for regular business. In addition to the Holiday chef class and wine tasting I told you about last week (don't forget the deadline for booking with a discount is November 1...next Saturday) we can whip up all kinds of special things -- large or small, your place or ours. Want a private wine tasting? An intimate rehearsal dinner? An anniversary party? Just give us a call. We're always glad to serve.

Tonight's the last Music in the Streets in Washington and Mary will be keeping the store open until about 8:00. She'll have wines to sample, as usual. And don't forget to shop our dwindlng Summer Clearance table. And this is the last weekend to get the 20% Featured Wines discount on the great French wines we've been highlighting all month. And we've put out some of our holiday goodies so you can make early buying decisions (if you see something you really like, there's still time for us to order more). And, last but not least...we really need and appreciate your support!

I picked up fresh crab and scallops at Cap'n Buc's this morning, for this weekend's Back Bay Cafe dinner. And we've got plenty of Acre Station filet mignon, some luscious little cornish hens, and one of the hits on the menu, Crepes stuffed with Spinach and Pine Nuts. All of which go with a great bottle of wine. There are a lot of seasonal boats in the Belhaven harbor because of the weather, and we hope to see a number of them for dinner, so be sure to give us a call for a reservation and we'll have a table ready for you - 252-944-2870.

So come by and see us. And when Wall Street sneezes, we'll all say...Gesundheit!
