Terra Andina ("land of the Andes") winery is making a name for itself as a producer of a full range of Chilean wines from entry-level bargains like this one to full premium blockbusters.
The Carménère grape is a wine grape variety originally planted in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, France, where it was used to produce deep red wines and occasionally used for blending purposes. A member of the Cabernet family of grapes, the name "Carménère" originates from the French word for crimson (carmin) which refers to the brilliant crimson color of the autumn foliage prior to leaf-fall.
Carmenere is now grown only in Chile and has become the signature red grape of the Central Valley (like Malbec in Mendoza, Argentina and Pinotage in South Africa). The wine is rich, spicy and delicious. Try it with roasts or anything off the grill.
